Reseed’s Tech Stack: Building a Scalable Platform for Millions of Farmers
While most climate tech companies chase complex mechanical solutions, Reseed built their platform with a different goal: massive scalability for farmers in emerging markets. In a recent Category Visionaries episode, Josh Knauer revealed their technical approach.
Data Collection Foundation The platform’s core is a mobile app designed for accessibility. Farmers use “an app that we provide to them, and turning that data into carbon credits and other products that corporations and governments and individuals need in order to achieve climate goals,” Josh explains.
Verification Architecture Reseed’s technical differentiation comes from their measurement system. “We are literally the first company in the world to create a carbon credit measuring protocol for active agricultural land in very small places,” Josh notes. This protocol had to work across diverse farming practices and geographies.
Integration Framework The platform integrates with multiple data sources. Josh describes how they “collected data from manufacturers and brought in things like material safety, data sheets, and all kinds of other data from all kinds of different sources, brought it all together.” This experience from his previous ventures shaped Reseed’s data integration approach.
Scaling for Growth With “well over 10,000 farmers that are participating and collecting data,” the platform needed built-in scalability. The architecture supports their ambitious goal: “Our goal within a year or two is to be working with tens of millions of farmers.”
Enterprise Requirements The platform also serves enterprise needs, with “working with world governments and UN bodies and all the rest, to have our carbon credits specifically and some of our other products recognized and validated as being ready for regulated carbon markets.” This required building robust validation systems.
AI and Analytics Through partnerships “with companies like Google and all kinds of cool things,” Reseed leverages AI for data analysis. This helps process the massive amounts of environmental data collected from farms.
Future Architecture The platform is designed to support ecosystem services becoming “a major asset class for investors.” Josh envisions financial products built on their data: “We are working right now with financing vehicles… that are basically starting to use our carbon credits as the base asset of their funds.”
For B2B founders building platforms for emerging markets, Reseed’s experience shows how to balance accessibility with enterprise-grade features. Their approach demonstrates that successful tech platforms don’t need to be complex – they need to solve real problems at scale.
